We pretty much needed one of these. MAME .89 is out. I haven't tried to get the ROMs yet, as I just found out.

Got the .89 ROMs, but haven't merged them in yet. I wish they'd hurry up and figure out the encryption for the Raiden games...

Yeah... Newsgroups. I got it a day or two ago. Should be available via GigaNews still. I can send them to you if we figure out a common storage space.

Well, it may not have worked from GN anyway. The retention is supposedly good. Things show up from nearly a month back, but the files usually fail for some reason or other unless they are newer (say a week or less.) I don't know why. One of us should run a small FTP server or something.

Oh, I have them already, I just wanted a way to send them to you. (looks like that isn't necessary) I also musn't go on IRC.
I also don't use BT. I just try to make sure I get them in the 2 day retention of the Comcast server.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Using PeerGuardian should help with those sort of matters. BT is being widely accepted as a way to download legal things as well, which is only good for it as a standard.

Peerguardian, the P2P condom.
PeerGuardian 2.0 is due out soon, that should keep you safe.

I'm all merged up. I now, for the first time, have my own complete local copy of the latest MAMEset.
...for me to brag about.

That's a good thing to have. I need to merge my .89s. I wish they'd just fix all the old games 100% before moving on though. I'd like to know that I don't have to change any of the older ROMs or drivers. It would be really nice if you only needed to update MAME if you were interested in the new games they add.

Yeah I don't think that is very likely. You would have to license each rom from each independent manufacturer. Chances of that happening seem pretty damn slim.

well I'm wondering how these people, that are building and selling these all-in-one mame arcade machines, are getting away with it?

I got most of them. I think I'm missing about 20 total. Not of the .90 ROMs, just random ones. Admiral, I may have to send you a list, and see what you can do. Comcast changed their news around. There is now a monthly limit, but there is about a month worth of retention, and things like that. I didn't realize it, and used up my giggage for January.

Admiral if you can update me as well.
Tres on Arkeg?! Sounds like I may need to make a train trip soon.
Cox's news servers are all wacky right now too. About 95% incomplete out of nowhere. Any comments from our official Cox rep?

Mine is the opposite. Nothing is missing for at least a month back. (insane!) before it retained for a day or three. The problem is, they capped it. 2GB per month, and 1GB per month on the free Comcast GigaNews account. So I basically get 3GB per month for free. I could probably manage with that if I had known that was the case before I downloaded 3 games, tons of ROMs etc. I would have used it a bit more sparingly. I could have easily done without NFSU2.
Well, next month will be better.
