I think the Admiral purchased it. I have my ear to the ground and all that seems to be down there is a nuke.
Post with news and I will do likewise.

Played with the physics engine for way too long. I love to throw objects and build stuff.

Some people seem to think this method might have been hotfixed by Valve already.

Half Life 2: Warez Edition:
Now this is funny. All you people out there playing that copy of Half Life 2 you downloaded off the net…don’t worry, Valve already knows. The reason they already know is that they are the ones behind it and they are tracking you. I told you that it was funny.
Recently, one of the HL2Files.com members here, alerted me of a pirated warez version of Half-Life 2, apparently released via the Bittorent network. I immediately, forwarded this to Gabe Newell of VALVe Software. A couple of hours later, Gabe replied with the following: We're running a bit of an experiment. We're keeping track of the accounts that do this and will be shutting them off.

From half life files.
So, as you can see, VALVe Software have released a test "warez" version aimed at catching people out. These people will have their accounts deleted and will be banned from Steam.

sounds like a smart measure, but what's to stop someone from just making a new steam account?

Well "my" HL1 cd key is associated to my current steam acct.

Better than doom by far!

doom3 is technically impressive, looks great, and is significant because of the generation of licensed doom3 engine games we'll be surely seeing, but...
I've only played a half hour through HL2 and it's already got doom beat in terms of storytelling, "look," and funfactor (physics wheee!).

I agree, it is way more "fun" than doom3.
I am having a little stuttering problem, but it apears other people are too...
Have a look here:

I didn't follow that link. Is it ATI related? Or is it a nonspecific stuttering bug? I have a feeling I won't be seeing it on my hardware since it's about as different from yours as it could be. (Intel/AMD, Nvidia/ATI, etc.) The performance numbers on HardOCP look pretty good. I can't wait to try it. I should be able to find a little time to get it installed late tonight.

WTF!!! I had no idea that you had to be connected in order to play single player. What a bunch of FuXinG BullShit Mr. Han-Man!! DrJ3RK hates steam now.

by enderzero
Rumor has it you just have to be connected to install the game and then if you set the steam setting to not download updates you can play when offline. More research should likely be done to that end though.

I think steam verifies your game every time you play, but... in other news... rumor has it Valve is supposed to be releasing some MP patch/addon over steam (HL2 MP?, TF3?, CS2?)

I just hate it because I have a legitimate copy. I don't need to have it verified, decrypyted, securomed, etc. What's next, a USB fingerprint scanner in every box? Mandatory web-cam mounted over my cd-drive, so they can see the real disc sitting in it? FUX0RZ!!!

That said, the game is quite fun so far. A little heavy on the manhacks though.

I don't seem to have THE stuttering problem. I do get some occasional stutters, but it doesn't happen constantly like it does for some people. I guess the patch comes out today sometime. They wanted to test it a bit more.

Oh, SpiderChoki: It looks like you may want to pick the game up. I don't think you'll be able to just use my discs. You can actually set up a Steam account (which you have to do even if you buy the discs,) and install over the internet. (If you didn't know that already.) There is also a utility that will create a DVD or multi-CD image(s) for you so you can back up the game once it's downloaded. (Would be cool for you since you have a DVD burner.)

It seems that it can be played offline, though I haven't investigated this myself yet. I read that there was a Steam update that makes doing such a thing easier. In fact, now that I know it's possible to play offline, I don't mind having Steam installed, and online at all. I just don't like the idea of being forced to use it, and have it connected to play the game.
