Catalyst 4.9 is out. Should yield some significant performance increases. Install them or die! 
hopefully they fixed that with 4.9...

The new ATI Control panel thingy with the 4.8 drivers broke my TV-Out overlay theatre mode.

That Catalyst Control Panel thing just does not want to work on my PC. It errors out whenever it loads. bleh! It's gone!

I just wanted to see games rendered in ascii.

I just found it in the good old regular version.
Open Display Properites, then go to the Settings Tab.
Hit the advanced button.
Go to the 3D tab.
Select Open GL radio button, and check Custom.
Change to the Smart Shader (TM) Effects Tab.
Change the Effect to Ascii green / white.
