WiiWare!!!

Post by R3C »

Ok, so here's that thread I mentioned in the Guitar Hero thread...

....

........   ......

So, I started getting some WiiWare the other day. I grabbed Lost Wind, and the bubble popping game.

The bubble popping game is definitely not all that great. It's entertaining for a minute or three, but that's it. I thought there would be more to it. I recommend against it.

Lost Wind is INCREDIBLY FUN AND COOL!!! Get it now. Get it more. It's a cool, relaxed pace platformer, with Wii gimmicks, and interesting controls. It's full of simple yet fun environmental puzzles, a touch of RPGishness, funny characters, and cool 3D-though-sidescrolling graphics. I recommend this one highly! I would put it in the class of Below the Root. You even get a shuba-esque cape later on.

I don't really want to go too in-depth into the play mechanics, as they were actually quite delightful to uncover, so I'd also recommend against reading much about it until you play it. The sounds are great. The music is very relaxing a pseudo-koto windy themed sort of thing.

Anyway...

What's the deal with WiiWare. I could go do some research except the fact I am connected at 38.4k and the thought of opening a new tab is giving me shivers.

Do you have to pay? Are they "casual games" from the community?

Virtual console is a funny thing for the emulator-friendly. I have an xbox sitting right next to my wii that has our full (little bit older) rom sets for all the consoles - all perfectly configured for nice xbox controllers and completely TV friendly. Yet I have still been compelled on a couple occasions to pay to download games on VC. They don't even support state saving! I haven't done it much (probably just to fill up the home screen a bit) but it is easy to envision buying a permanent license for a game that would then follow you on multiple systems (and to friends houses) and offer a super cool interface to scroll through your LIBRARY. I know there are plenty of faves I would shell out for under those conditions.

WiiWare is free, except the Wii Points required to grab a game. (Kinda XBox Live Arcade sorta deal) Some of the games appear to be independent, some are commercial (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is on there.) There are also some casual games. You get these the same way you do for VC.

As far as VC goes, sometimes I just don't feel like mousing and KBing from the couch to even load up a game. :D So, I got a few favorites for VC.
