Invalid_Session?

Post by enderzero »

I am looking in to reports that some users are getting "Invalid_Session" errors when trying to post. Please email me at admin@enderzero.net if you get this. Please include as much info as possible. Thanks!

I have to admit that when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be something silly about people in wheelchairs passing a bong around... :uhh:

So...

... it is in fact proxy-related. I don't know why it just started being affected now, but I can access it from non-corp machines at work, and from home just fine. That game store site still thinks I'm using AOL from MS too, so it's all related somehow. It didn't do it before, but a lot of things happened at the same time that you merged the boards and changed the board, so I doubt it was something to do with your changes. More likely it was MS related. We've had to install several updates lately (all security related,) so that was probably part of it.

For anyone interested...this should explain well.

However, problems arise with how some ISPs operate their systems. Instead of forwarding the users real IP or indeed a different but static IP they simply make available only the IP of the proxy being browsed.
The problem is that for users whose session is forever being renewed due to their IP changing this extra level of checking can cause issues. For many ISPs the noted changing of 6 to 4 in the IP validation check will be sufficient ... however AOL crops up (as per usual in nearly all similar situations with all software ...) as the sore thumb.
I have upgraded the forum to v2.0.5, which is rumored to solve some of these problems. You see any difference Dustin?
