woo woo fwpthhhp not in my fuckin' hood

Post by Ocean11 »

If that black gentleman and his ho came into my neighbourhood telling me I had to be up makin' breakfast or summat, know what I mean woowooo, before he knows it his twin exhausts would be going fwpthhhp because his sawn off head and the sawn off head of his ho would be stuck right up the pipes. And that dealer who 'has' to sell them -- his head would be bobbin on the top of the aerial. Yessir, woo woo.

ender, give me a mo and I'll list you up some tracks.

I listen to Fourtet, and Zero 7 as well. I assume, since you're into Zero 7, you also listen to Air, Ocean...?

G- I dig the anotherlatenight series too. The Zero7 mix is really nice.

If you guys are into LTJ Bukem, you should check out High Contrast, and Peshay.

I'm feeling rather peshay

Post by Goemon »

Haven't heard any High Contrast, but I've heard one Peshay track on this great Ninja Tune mix by DJ Food and DK:

Suggest you check out DJ Food's "Recipe for Disaster" and the "Refried" remixes:

You guys might want to give a listen to a Seattle group called FCS North ("focus"). Let me know if you have trouble finding their stuff.

Claude Challe

Ocaen: never heard Claude Challe, but he certainly has some fruity images on his home-page:

Looks mellow. I'll give it a listen at the record store this weekend.

Alkaline Trio are a bit more emo punk.

I'm also interested in getting this "Lounge Against the Machine" album by Richard Cheese:
http://www.ideatown.com/rc/

I heard a few clips on Amazon.com and it sounds promising; Vegas crooner re-interprets latest teen angst hits in a loungey style. He keeps all of the lyrics intact though, so you get a feel of Sinatra lilting, "I wanna fuck you like an animal" in the NIN "Closer" cover.

Saucy, I can always count on you to lead me to the good bands. Killswitch Engage puts my soul at ease, but for some reason my girlfriend wont let me bang her with it blasting in the background. That bitch.

Here's a few....

Post by Buzzworthy »

really good discs that I think a few of you may be interested in.

Keelhaul - II - really good instrumental metal with little to no vocals..pure, unadulterated pleasure....okay, maybe a little adultry!!

Refused - Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent - great punk/metal quartet who throw it in your face, and just when you think the ass kicking is over, they blind side you and do it again!! Awesome stuff! :grind:

I really liked the new Jack Johnson album, and really liked the appearance from Ben Harper. Good mellow stuff put the soul at ease.

and of course I had to pick up Killswitch....gnarly, gnarly, and more gnarly

This week's OVERPLAYED

Post by BenG »

Dillinger Escape Plan w/Mike Patton
The band itself creates the most insane HEAVY music I've heard in a while. With the addtion of Mike Patton on vocals and perussion .. this one time EP titled: Irony is a dead scene .. is one I'd recommend to anyone.

Tomahawk
NEW ALBUM! Titled: Mit Gas
12 musical creations of pure genius. Some of the most innovative heavy music that really in all actuality never gets heavy. Powered more by the string pulling and emtional puppeteering, this album will make you sit down after a few minutes and listen. VERY good stuff. .

Portishead
Live album in Roseland NYC.
I just recently have heard of this group. Went on a whim and got the album .. cannot say I was jiving at first. After about 3-4 times of random listening I finally got the vibe .. and overall this album has jumped to the top of my charts. Mellow in every sense but after a week of Dillinger Escape Plan .. this album was like medicine.

'nother good 'un for you pirates.

Do a search for;
L'Orchestre National de Barbes - Alaoui (Digital Bled Dance Mix) by Claude Challe

Some pretty, 'um, impassioned Arabic singing with a pumping good drum backing.

m'dishlemel, m'dishlemel, mejehjehehwelalum !

The Ottoman Military Project - Ceddin Deden (Mehter Marsi - Radio 2000 Mix) by our man Claude is also worth a listen.

new Alkaline

Post by Goemon »

Got the new Alkaline Trio "Good Mourning" CD a few weeks ago and finally managed to listen to it a few times; if you like them, then this is more of their good emo stuff with lots of tales of broken hearts and corpses (what?). Similar feel to "From Here to Infirmary".

Looking forward to the new Bouncing Souls "Anchors Aweigh" release, due out in the next few weeks. Also, planning on picking up the Audio Bullys album this week (since they were so good at Fuji Rock).

MistaS/db: either of you guys interested in seeing the Chemical Brothers do a DJ set at Liquid Room on Thursday, Sept. 25th (from 11pm)? Tix are a bit pricey as usual (5,250yen); we're going with a bunch of peeps and already have our tickets. Lemme know if you're interested.

MrS: A friend is picking 'em up for the lot of us. If you want, she can probably get 'em for you (and any guests?). If she can't do it for some reason, I can help you get tix directly from the usual sources (Pia, ePlus, LawsonTicket or by contacting SMASH). More info on the Liquid Room site:
http://www.liquidroom.net/schedule/index.php?month=9

I've seen the Chems only twice, but both times they were "just" doing their own music. I've heard that their DJ sets are really good (judging by their mix CDs I own, I agree).

Mr. S: bad news on the Chemicals; the tix sold out before our friend could pick any up. Hoping for a 2nd round of tickets becoming available or a 2nd show being added. I'll keep you posted.

I picked up that Cinematic Orchestra cd this past weekend; good tunes to digest to.

I made the mistake of taking shelter from this past weekend's typhoon by ducking into the Shibuya HMV. I bought too many CDs to listen to at once; I can highly recommend the new People Under The Stairs album "...or Stay Tuned". Good hip hop, y'all. More reviews after I sort through 'em all.

Ocean: Also got the dvd for Neil Young's "Rust Never Sleeps" concert.

Ah nice, I have a live mix by Z-trip from seattle... great cross-genre mixing and song selection....

Saw him open for DJ Shadow and Cut-chemist on the product placement tour at Irving plaza..... fun show, but I think people were kinda like... "who's this guy... bring out Shadow!!"

Gomez - Jim Morrison

Post by Ocean11 »

Does anybody else hear a strong resemblance to some Doors sounds in some of Gomez's songs? They don't sound the least bit English to me...

I'm just getting reacquainted with Iggy Pop after a break of 15 years. He's a funny old bastard.

I had been planning to come up with a comprehensive list of all the music I have been rockin out to lately, along with critical reviews and stuff...but that project is becoming a little too large, so I'll just wing it...

Finch I'm into heavier indie rock right now. These guys are up near the top. Check out: Album: "What it is to Burn" Song(s): "New Beginnings," "Letters to You," "What it is to Burn"

Thursday Damn these guys rock...and I dig it. Lookin forward to the new album...which I think I could probably go download about now. Check out: Album: "Full Collapse" Song(s): "Understanding in a Car Crash"

Get Up Kids More cool indie rock - this a bit poppier. Check out: Album: "On A Wire" Song(s): "Overdue"

Alkaline Trio badabump, badabump - rockin indie. Check out: Album: "Good Mourning" Song(s): "This Could Be Love," "We've Had Enough"

(And You Will Know Us By The) Trail Of Dead Missed these guys when they were in town a few weeks ago. I bet they rocked. All these kinds of bands seem 10 times better live. Check out: Album: "Source Tags and Code" Song(s): "It Was There That I Saw You," "How Near, How Far"

At The Drive-in I got the Relationship of Command album, but I haven't got to listen to it yet. But I really dig these guys. They are no more BTW...and I have yet to get into the Mars Volta CD which isn't a lot like this...but I am planning to listen to it through a few more times before I pass judgement. Check out: Album: "Vaya" Song(s): any

Dashboard Confessional: A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar Definitely, definitely not the normal sad sappy Dashboard...but the jury is still out on if this new Dashboard is better. "Hands Down" is of course a great song, but it has been on two other albums. There are a few others (tracks 3 and 7) that have got my head bobbing...but I'm not exactly belting out the lyrics at the top of my lungs the way I do every other Dashboard song (when no one is around of course). But time will tell, I guess.

Jimmy Eat World Near the top of the "bands I want to see live right now" list. I have been really into them since Tokyo. (deep inhale) natsukashiiiiiii. Check out: Album: "Bleed American" Song(s): "A Praise Chorus," "If You Don't, Don't"

Acceptance I saw these guys live and they basically tore the place down. I had never heard of them, but they are touring the country with One Line Drawing (AKA Jonah Matranga of "Far" and "New End Original" all 3 of which I strongly recommend). I bought their EP but it didn't quite have what their live show had. Still if you get a chance... Check out: Album: "Black Lines to Battlefields" Song(s): "Permanent"

Here are some quick ones that are still on my play list: John Mayer, Counting Crows, Jack Johnson:On and On, Coldplay, Chevelle.

You may notice all of this music is pretty similar. I seem to be pretty stuck in a basic rock/indie rock genre of late. I listen to almost zero hip-hop...which is just bizarre. But I did pop on some drum and bass the other day and was diggin it...so I might have to go check some out live for old times sake here pretty soon.

Bands I want to check out more include: Prefuse 73, Maroon 6, Valis, Jason Mraz, New Found Glory, Something Corporate.

Break Reform - Fractures
Discovered these guys+gal on a lazy day browsing at HMV... new skool soul/jazz with sweet female vocals that are at moments reminscent of Beth Gibbons (Portishead). Alot of straight up jazz, but some hip-hop flavored beats also mixed in. According to their website they've gained a lot of steam in Japan recently......
