teh GBA is teh roXors!!

Post by enderzero »

I have an extrememly boring class for 3 hours 3 days a week and if I just go I fall asleep 99%... neh 100% of the time. But I found a solution. I borrowed a friends GBA and now I have time to get my video gaming in AND pay more attention. Don't believe me? The gaming keeps me awake and I promise that I absorb more of the lecture if I am awake, even if I am only paying partial attention. But it doesn't really matter because the prof is a horrible lecturer and it is really pointless to take notes anyway. But if I need to take notes, I just pause the game.

Anyway, not only did he let me borrow his GBA but also his EZ-Cart 512mbit! So I have been teh roXoring teh NES games mainly. I got further than ever before in Rush'N'Attack (before accidentally deleting the save state) and then yesterday I beat the elusive Bionic Commando for the first time. I also beat the first level of Spelunker, which is no small task. I have been thinking of giving Rygar a go next. It is great because I have all the classics (about 60 games) on the sucka and it only takes up 12MBs (AKA 96Mbit). So why are GBA flash roms so small and expensive? I can but a 1GB Compact flash card for less than $70 but I can't even buy a 64MB (512Mbit) flash for less than $100. I think $100 is a fair price for a Rom Cart... but I want 1GB for that price. Until then I am borrowing.

Soooo... All this GBAing has made me want to check out some of the better GBA games. But with limited room I have to keep it sparse. Which brings me to my question:

What are your favorite GBA games?

Here is what is on my cart now:
PocketNESS
Zelda: Minish Cap
Metroid Zero Mission
Castlevania Circle of the Moon
Pokemon Pinball
Ninja 5-0
Astroboy Omega Factor
Super Monkey Ball Jr.

I have beat in the past:
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Metroid Fusion

And I have already checked out:
Mario Vs. Donkey Kong (cool puzzle platformer)
SM Adv 2
SM Adv 3 - Yoshi's Island
Wario Ware
Megaman Zero 3
Advance Wars 2

I have heard these were good and might check them out:
Mario Kart Super Circuit
F-Zero GP Legend
Final Fantasy 1 & 2 (no brainer)
Doom I & II
Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance
Phantasy Star Collection
Zelda Link to the Past (Is it any different?)
Sonic Pinball Party
DK Country (2? - I didn't like the 2nd on SNES)
Jet Grind Radio
MK Tournament Edition
FF Tactic Adv (SNES exactly?)
Boktai
Fire Emblem
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
Wade Hixton's Counter Punch
Sonic Adv 3
Ultimate Card Games
Ultimate Brain Games

Anyone have more to add, reason to remove, or general GBA discussion?

Castlevania: Harmony of dissonance is great, i like it better than what little ive played of circle of the moon.

Still havnt beat Castlevania:AoS, very close, just want to get 100% exploration before i beat the boss, which i've found alreay.

Zelda LttP, is no different. It is if you play it linked with other people though.

I beat AoS 100%. Well worth it too. If Choki would hurry up and finish his HoD game, I'd start playing. I suppose I could just back up the saves to a different slot, but I don't like doing that.

Currently I have these on my cart:
HoD
Super Mario World
Minish Cap
Final Fight One (Japanese version, don't like that hacked up US one.)
Pinball of the Dead
ChessMaster
Tetris Worlds
Mario Golf

I like Yoshi's Island a lot! It's an excellent game that I never really gave the time of day to before. Now it's one of my top Mario games.

Mario Golf is an excellent time eating tool. :D

I just plugged the GBA into my GC for the first time in a while to do some Tingle-Tuning in WindWaker.

GBA is quite the fun thing.

And then there is "Project Xerxes" which nothing further will be said about.

:ninja:

I saw a dude playing teh DS in class. He was full on playing Mario 64 on a handheld. He also had a pretty impressive 3D racer. That thing is powerful. But it seems kinda large (tho flat) and I question Mario 64 played thru with a D-pad.

J3RK - added your recommendations to my library (GBA staging area) but I have a feeling I will be a bit busy between Minish Cap and Zero Mission. Have you tried the PCE emu yet? I threw it on with our two favortie test pinball roms but they didn't seem to work too well (at all).

I'm waiting for the HaX0rinG before I pick up my DS. As soon as the HaX0rZ have it, then I will have it. Teh DS is the CoolZ0r because it's backwardZ compatible.

Anyone mess with goomba?

It's frustrating me, it cant find the save data. I put goomba.gba in the root like it said, but it asks for some gb00~1.dat for the save, any ideas? Also, goomba can't play GBC roms in color mode. Lame.

Hmm... I used it, but I didn't need to access the save data for anything. You also don't need to put it in the root. I have an Emu folder on my card, and it works fine. Didn't know about the GBC thing either, as I only played standard GB games with it.

It's called PocketNES Something Something... :D It's the one that looks the most like it should come with PocketNES. You're talking about the injector tools right?
