Check this out...

Canon first released a consumer inkjet supporting CD-printing in October, 2003. North America is one market Canon decided not to include this feature.

US models *CAN* have the ability to print onto CDs except for these reasons

*

They have a piece of plastic blocking the inner cover, where CDr models have a slot with extra rollers.
*

CDr models include a tray
*

CDr models have the feature enabled on the printer.
*

The driver checks for this feature and stores whether it can print to CD-r in the registry
*

Non-CDr models do not include the software.
