More idiocratic behavior. :S

Post by R3C »

How do people like this function? I mean, I realize that many people don't quite understand how certain things work. That's fine. It just means your area of expertise lies somewhere else. (hopefully) However, when one starts posting information for other people, one should take a little bit of responsibility and get the facts straight. I can just see a couple hundred people who need a video card taking this guys misinformed mouth-tripe at face value, and spending a decent chunk of money on a stupid card. Bleh. I guess this was posted in the NewEgg user comments area or something like that.

let me clear up a few things. as somebody else mentioned, this card IS faster than the 7800 GTX, and much cheaper. this is because this 6200 has 512 MB of memory, which is twice what the 7800 GTX has. this is useful because modern games use around 300 to 400 MB for frame buffers. since the 7800 only has 256 MB of memory, it has to swap out to system memory, which of course slows the whole system down. this 6200 with 512 MB has enough memory for a full frame buffer and for plenty of textures. the only case in which the 7800 is faster is in low resolutions where the frames take up less memory, and a full frame buffer takes about 150 to 200 MB.

I forgot to give the context. Apparently some company is putting out 6200 cards with 512MB of memory. The only purpose I can see for this card, is to rip people off. They're most likely trying to cash in on the people who don't know a ton, and think that more memory automatically means more performance.

Well, they obviously have at least one customer.

Yes. A customer who is trying very hard to justify the money he just wasted.

Or he really just doesn't know. I mean taking one quick glance at any major hardware site will show what the card is capable of. I'd even put a 6200 in a computer for someone if they only played an occasional game, and didn't need the 3D power. But I'd never buy one with 512MB. No game that could come close to using that much local memory would even run on a 6200. (over 3.4 frames per second anyway) I think it's just as bad that the company put that card out in the first place as it is for someone to say how cool it is. Lies!! All of it!! Jerks!!! All of them!!! :D

Even just using the common sense factor, one can figure out that a card that just came out for $599 from a top tier manufacturer, is probably going to better than a revamped lowest level card with extra memory. Oh well. I really shouldn't care since it doesn't effect me, but I just know that several people will buy one because of said idiot. (and then be sorely disappointed as if they had come for the fork)
