Nominations that made me smile Thomas Haden Church - Best Supporting Actor - Sideways
The same criticism could be used here as well. How was Church's performance not judged as being a Lead role???
Another nomination that made me smile Catalina Moreno - Best Actress - Maria Full of Grace
Amazing in that she spoke Spanish the whole film. I'd love to see her win.

I agree with you on Foxx, but Church was a supporting actor in Sideways. Foxx was the protagonist in Collateral so that is a tough one. Interesting Church got the nom but nothing for Giamatti.
Both Riding Giants and The Corporation got robbed for not making it in on the Best Docu. Both were better than Super Size Me.
Good to see A Very Long Engagement made it on there somewhere (Cinematography) but I was hoping for a Best Picture nod. Not any real shockers in that category. Would have been cool to see Motorcycle Diaries make the list.
Would have been nice to see Zach Braff get some kind of recognition for Garden State.
Overall not a lot of surprises. Be back later with my predictions.

Time for my Oscar predictions 25 minutes before they star. I managed to see pretty much every movie that was nominated for more than one Oscar which includes all the best picture noms. This might be the first time I can claim that.
I can see it going two ways. One is that The Aviator will sweep. It was a good movie, but results like that would likely be pretty political. Therefore I have also included my choices in the event it doesn't do all that well.
Best Pic The Aviator / Million Dollar Baby
I probably like Sideways more but it has little to no chance. Million Dollar Baby was the best of the rest (but depressing!)
Best Actor I wil be shocked if Leo doesn't win this, however my vote goes to Jamie Foxx for Ray.
Best Acrtress Hillary Swank
Supporting Actor Morgan Freeman - but this is a tough category. All the performances were pretty good but none really stands out. Freeman is always good and this role wasn't exceptionally better than his others.
Supporting Actres Cate Blanchett for the Aviator. If not her...? Well not Natalie Portman anyway.
Animated Feature I only saw part of the Incredibles and none of the other 2, but I'll pick it.
Director Scorsese or Eastwood.
Best Docu Born into Brothells
Cinematography Aviator but I am really hoping for A Very Long Engagement
Editing Aviator... maybe M$Baby if it comes out the big winner or even Finding Neverland cuz of the cool fantasy scenes.
