I gots me teh Cliquot. And I'm getting a:

Perrier Jouet

Maybe another bottle.

Should we be planning on 2-3 each? I guess if we had 2 in teh 20-40 range for each participant it would work out okay. I would rather not have to feel like I had to hurry up and drink or I wouldn't get my share , yet I want to try a bit of each.

Some intermediary/back up Mumm's might be a good idea.

They are selling 3rd tier Roederer for only $19 at FM, and it blasts the MUMM and other similarly priced bottles into tiny little pieces. I'd recommend it highly. The one in Rixler's pic above is second tier and usually sells for $35-45. The 3rd tier is like the one sitting on my wine rack. It has a darker brownish label. Another good one is Jordan (which is a standard green bottle with a big yellow "J" on it. I got a bad bottle of it from Costco, but every other time I've had it, it was delicious. I do like the MUMM Napa Cuvee. (Especially after a bottle of something slightly better to satisfy the initial flavor requirements that I have.) I'd say out of all the lower cost models though, the Louis Roederer has to be the best. I prefer the next step up though (Cliquot and 2nd tier Louis.) That's the sweet spot cost to taste-wise.

Hmmm.... Wish I was in the financial position of the last Champagne-a-thon. I could handle a couple more bottles of Cristal, 92-93 Doms, Grand Siecle, etc. etc. Amazing stuff those. Cliquot comes pretty close though.

Very nyce teh spidermonkey. That is a big step up in class. Maybe to remind us of ought-two...

Ahh, good times. But I do think 2nd tier champagne, especially Clicquot, is pretty easily acceptable as a replacement when funding level is set to reasonable. We should be plenty happy with this kind of selection. Mumm's at the corner store is $15 which puts it at the extremely budget end.

Anyone planning to pick up a bottle of Moet? That is squarely in tier 2. Maybe... McNevin?

I'm not a fan of Moet at all. There's something in the flavor that I just don't like. I'd take the MUMM over it any time. Also, if you're going to spend that kind of money, just get Cliquot or Roederer. I mean, variety is good and all that, but not when it's sub-par. Best to stick with a smaller range of more enjoyable bubbles for the mouth.

Oh, that's an excellent picture! Memories... What it doesn't covey though is the bottle of Cristal, and the two bottles of Dom Perignon that I drank out of impatience.

I brought a bottle or two over to Michael and Allison's party, and then drank one at home.

So there could have been three more bottles in the front line.
